What do registered nurses do?

A registered nurse is a professional who has graduated from an accredited nursing school. Depending on their education path, a registered nurse may earn a diploma from a hospital program, an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The state licenses or certifies them, and they practice within the scope of that license or certification.

RNs help patients recover and maintain their physical or mental health, assist physicians during treatments and examinations, and administer medications.

RN’s are trained and educated in a formal nursing education program at an accredited school of nursing, pass a national certification examination, and are licensed by the state to practice nursing.

They provide nursing services to patients or clients across health promotion, disease prevention, acute and chronic care, and restoring and maintaining health throughout the lifespan.
