What do VA Clinics/Centers do?

VA Clinics and Centers offer a comprehensive range of health and counseling services to enrolled Veterans, including primary and specialty medical care, hospital-based services such as surgery and critical care, community-based counseling, mental health services, and assisted living. 

Services are delivered through various facilities, including large medical centers, smaller community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), and specialized Vet Centers, ensuring convenient access for Veterans across the country. 

Types of Services

Medical Services

  • Hospital-based care: Includes surgery, critical care, radiology, and pharmacy services. 
  • Specialty services include cardiology, dermatology, neurology, oncology, and urology. 
  • Routine and preventative care: Regular checkups with primary care providers. 
  • Vision and Dental: Eye exams, vision rehabilitation, and dental care programs. 
  • Prosthetics: Medical equipment and prosthetic devices. 
  • Home Health and Geriatric Care: Services for the elderly and care provided in a Veteran’s home. 

Mental Health and Counseling Services

  • Counseling: Individual and group therapy for issues like PTSD, depression, and substance misuse. 
  • Referral Services: Directing Veterans to other appropriate VA or community services. 

Types of Facilities

Community Living Centers: Residential facilities that provide assisted living and intensive nursing care for Veterans. 

VA Medical Centers: Large facilities offering comprehensive services from primary care to complex hospital-based care. 

Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs): Smaller clinics providing convenient locations for routine appointments and standard outpatient services. 

Vet Centers: Neighborhood-based centers offering confidential counseling and outreach for combat Veterans and their families.
