What do Critical Care Surgeons do?

A critical care surgeon is a specialist who manages life-threatening surgical emergencies, trauma, and other critically ill surgical patients, providing comprehensive and urgent medical and surgical care.

They diagnose, treat, and stabilize patients with conditions like severe injuries, infections, and organ failure, using both surgical and non-operative techniques.

These surgeons coordinate care with other specialists and often handle urgent situations in high-pressure environments like emergency rooms and trauma centers.

The terms critical care surgeon, trauma surgeon, and acute care surgeon are often used interchangeably.

Around-the-Clock Care: They provide life-saving care 24/7, 365 days a year.
