What do Physiatrists do?

A physiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), focusing on improving function and reducing pain through non-surgical methods for people of all ages. 

They treat chronic pain, sports injuries, neurological disorders, and musculoskeletal conditions by prescribing physical therapy, creating exercise regimens, and using minimally invasive treatments like injections and assistive devices. 

After medical school, physiatrists complete a residency to become board-certified in PM&R.  

Responsabilities

Diagnosis: Physiatrists assess patients’ conditions using physical exams, medical history, and advanced tools like electrodiagnostic testing to diagnose issues affecting the nerves, muscles, and bones. 

Treatment Planning: They develop comprehensive treatment plans that may include:
