What do Orthopedic Assistants do?

Orthodontic assistants (OA) assist orthodontists in providing dental care for patients with orthodontic issues.

The specific duties of an OA may vary depending on the practice and the orthodontist’s preferences. Some OAs may also perform additional tasks such as taking X-rays or performing minor dental procedures. 

Responsabilities

Patient Care: 

  • Preparing patients for procedures
  • Taking dental impressions and intraoral photographs
  • Assisting with braces, aligners, and other orthodontic appliances
  • Educating patients on oral hygiene and appliance care

Clinical Support: Assisting with orthodontic adjustments, Changing archwires and elastic bands, Preparing and sterilizing instruments, and Maintaining patient records. 

Administrative Tasks: Scheduling appointments, Processing insurance claims, and Coordinating with dental labs.
