What do Military Ambulatory Procedure Visits Operational Transportable Clinics/Centers do?

Military Ambulatory Procedure Visits (APVs), which are part of Operational Transportable Clinics/Centers (OTCs), provide same-day outpatient care for surgical and other complex medical procedures that do not require an overnight stay, allowing service members to return home the same day.

These units offer centralized, efficient, and patient-centered care for pre-operative assessments, same-day surgeries, and post-operative monitoring, often consolidating multiple health assessment appointments into a single visit to improve efficiency and access for military members.

In essence, APVs within OTCs enhance the military healthcare system by delivering specialized, high-intensity care on an outpatient basis, improving workflow, and ensuring timely service for military personnel and their families.

Key functions of Military APVs/OTCs

Same-Day Surgery: Perform surgical procedures that do not require hospital admission, with patients admitted and discharged on the same day.

Pre- and Post-Operative Care: Provide immediate pre-procedure and post-procedure care to patients within an ambulatory setting.

Centralized Health Services: Consolidate various medical services, such as routine and special medical examinations (e.g., retirement, occupational, deployment-related), immunizations, and treatments, into a single location.

Operational Efficiency: Develop standardized workflows and “one-stop-shop” solutions for complex health assessments, thereby reducing redundant appointments and freeing up primary care clinics for patients with acute illnesses.

Deployment-Related Care: Offer services such as deployment-related health assessments, which are crucial for maintaining military readiness.

Transportable Operations: Some OTCs are designed to be transportable, allowing them to be deployed and set up in areas of operation to provide essential medical care.
