What do Denturists do?
Denturists are oral health professionals specializing in creating and fitting removable dentures directly to patients.
They design, fabricate, and deliver complete and partial dentures, reline and repair existing ones, and conduct follow-up adjustments to ensure optimal comfort and function for patients with missing teeth.
Patient assessment: Conduct visual examinations of the mouth and screen for oral cancer to assess suitability for dentures.
Impressions and measurements: Take impressions and measurements of the patient’s jaw to design custom-fit dentures.
Denture fabrication: Design and construct complete (full) and partial dentures, or even overdentures, in an in-house lab.
Fitting and adjustments: Fit new dentures into the patient’s mouth and make adjustments to ensure a proper fit and comfortable bite.
Maintenance and repair: Relining and repairing existing dentures to fix loose or broken ones.
Patient education: Provide expert guidance and follow up to ensure patients’ dentures are well maintained.
What they don’t do
Denture implants: Denturists are not qualified to perform the procedures, which require a dentist.
Extractions and surgery: They do not perform invasive surgical procedures, such as tooth extraction.
Diagnose and treat dental conditions: Denturists are not qualified to diagnose or treat complex oral health issues, which may require a dentist’s expertise. In such cases, patients may need to see a dentist first for diagnosis and treatment of underlying conditions.
