What do Developmental Disabilities Clinics/Centers do?

Developmental Disabilities Clinics/Centers provide integrated medical care, therapies, support services, and case management for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. 

They offer specialized medical and behavioral health care, facilitate access to various community-based support services, and help individuals and families manage their needs to promote independence and community participation. 

Types of Services

Medical Care: Comprehensive primary care, chronic disease management, preventive care, and treatment for illnesses and injuries, all tailored for individuals with IDD. 

Therapies: Specialized therapies such as speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, and physical therapy to develop key skills. 

Behavioral and Mental Health: Psychiatric support, behavioral treatments, and mental health services to address behavioral and mood challenges. 

Support Services: Help with finding appropriate living arrangements, employment opportunities, and social activities. 

Case Management/Care Coordination: Guiding individuals and families to find and access community-based services and supports, often including services funded through Medicaid waivers. 

Specialized Assessments: Developmental, cognitive, and intellectual assessments to diagnose and understand a person’s needs.
