What do Procedural Dermatology Physicians do?

Procedural dermatology physicians diagnose and surgically treat skin, hair, and nail conditions, ranging from everyday issues like benign growths to skin cancers such as melanoma, using surgical and device-based techniques.

They perform a variety of in-office procedures, including biopsies, excisions, Mohs surgery for skin cancer, and cosmetic treatments like fillers, lasers, and chemical peels to enhance skin health and appearance.

What they do

Surgical Treatment: They use various surgical techniques to remove skin cancers, abnormal moles, cysts, and other growths.

Mohs Surgery: A specialized procedure for skin cancer that involves layer-by-layer removal of cancerous tissue while examining it under a microscope, preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.

Skin Biopsies: They are performed to diagnose skin conditions, cancers, and other diseases.

Cosmetic Procedures: Procedural dermatologists offer treatments such as dermal fillers, neuromodulators (e.g., Botox), chemical peels, and laser treatments to enhance skin appearance and address signs of aging

Device-Based Procedures: They utilize a range of energy-based devices, including lasers and radiofrequency technology, for various therapeutic and cosmetic purposes.

Treatment of Skin Conditions: They manage conditions that require intervention, such as certain types of acne, hair loss, and pre-cancerous growths.

Reconstruction: They perform reconstructive surgeries to repair skin damage and restore its function and appearance after cancer removal.
