They assist with procedures like colonoscopies and endoscopies, administer and monitor sedation, provide patient and family education, manage chronic conditions, and ensure comprehensive, collaborative care within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Patient Care & Monitoring:

  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and comfort during and after procedures. 
  • Provide emotional support and advocate for patients’ needs. 
  • Manage and treat patients with conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), GERD, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). 

Procedural Assistance:

  • Prepare patients for and assist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, such as endoscopies and colonoscopies. 
  • Work with gastroenterologists and other medical professionals during procedures. 

Education & Counseling:

  • Educate patients and their families about digestive health, preventive measures (like colorectal cancer screening), and lifestyle modifications. 
  • Counsel patients on treatment options, risks, benefits, side effects, and strategies for managing side effects. 

Collaboration & Coordination:

  • Liaise with gastroenterologists, surgeons, dietitians, and other specialists to coordinate care. 
  • Interpret results and develop comprehensive, individualized care plans. 

Specialized Skills:

  • Develop expertise in managing chronic GI conditions, including liver diseases and stoma care.
